The prophet Mohammed PBUH was insulted and hurt by the Jewish and the nonbelievers in Makkah, and he never insulted them, he lived with them, did business with them and then prayed for them, what does that tells us about Islam?
Maybe Muslims around the world should stop for a minute and think, think of why were these cartoons printed and why do people all over the world has a certain wrong view about Islam, why are all these people against Islam.
We, as Muslims, can't deny that the picture Muslims around the world are painting of Islam is not a really nice one; if you ask a western about Islam they would think of 'Afghanistan', 'Bin Laden' 'oppressed women', etc. knowing that, what should we do to change it?
It's marketing.
Was the decision to boycott all Denmark products the right decision? I can't decide that because you need to study it and think; I know thought that what happened in Syria and Lebanon was not the right decision, it was completely wrong and actually hurt us more than it will help, it just help in sketching more lines that shows we are violent in that painting. I also know that I have my own view and know what I would do if I was given the decision.
I would demand an apology and make sure I make them understand that I don't accept what they did; I might decide to stop importing their products if they didn't accept that what they did was not acceptable.
I would put more effort on improving the look or their view of Islam and try to show it with my behavior and acts, not by reading papers or talking to them about how 'good' Islam is, because what is good? I have to show it!
Talking to someone about how Islam is 'good' would be like going to a non-Arab and telling him that the Quran is a miracle and expecting him to covert, Quran is in Arabic, how can you expect them to understand it's miracle? Quran in English or any other language is a translation of a text and no more, there are probably many mistakes in each one of them; the miracle of the Quran is that there is not even on single mistake in it and that is in Arabic.
I think I went out of topic here.
Some Muslims got so angry at these cartoons to the point that they started to insult Christianity, Judaism and other religions. How can they insult other religions and prophets? How would this help us as Muslims or people living in this world? First thing, it's prohibited in Islam to insult any prophet and your Islam is not complete if you don't believe in all prophets. The result of such an act would be more hatred from all sides toward the others which is exactly what we don't want.
I will stop writing and pay more attention to what the professor is saying.

I think all this stuff is counter productive. Demonstrations, sacking embassies, embargoes. All stupid if you ask me.
Firstly only a small minority produced the cartoons and were responsible for them. The cartoonist, the editor and probably some kind of publisher. They are responsible, not the whole bloody country.

I would just ignore it, as I know in my heart that it's wrong, and if anyone asked me I would voice my opinion, but no need to go hunting innocents when the cartoonist is probably enjoying coffee and lurpack safe and sound.

I just wish people would think more of WHY this is happening because they can't do nothing about the cartoons which are already published and the reaction to them only caused for more publicity and more people were interested in them.

Or for a technical reason, if you're using hotmail in the high security setting and the e-mail notification from blogger is not on your safe list then everyone who writes a comment on your site gets forwarded to your junk mail. Happens all the time with me.
Indeed what you say is true MJ however the problem is, one would not believe it but there in fact exists an enourmous amount of "peer pressure" among muslims to be reactionary.
In denmark, one muslim representative had expressed his feelings regardging teh cartoons "too unspirited" and was therefor heavily criticized by some muslims.
Other youngsters in particular, send each other emails spurring on the debate and stirring up emotions until there you have it, a large group of people at a total loss of understanding what exactly they are angry about?
In times like these, it would do us all good to have a cup of tea and return to our sources, so to speak.
The job at hand is a far greater one for the future of the muslims in Europe, and I am positive that something good will come out of what has happened. Insha'Allah.

Peer pressure is everywhere in this world, and that is no excuse for any Muslim to do something because of that. If that is the problem, then maybe they should work on their 'Iman' and try to think for their own self.
(It's another subject, but people always have the idea that peer pressure is not as strong in Muslim countries as it is in Europe and America; it might be more difficult because there you can keep thinking that you are Muslim and they are not, but when other Muslim teenagers smoke, drink, have sex, go clubbing, etc. Then you just learn to say no to everyone!)
I pray that something good will happens out of all this, I really do!

i work in a company whose founder is originally danish.. he founded the company 60 yrs ago and has long died.. etc.. he never really lived in denmark and made britain his home, but when one of my arab friends learnt that he expected me to resign or do something revolutionary because there's a danish connection and because of the cartoon.
that is the epitomy of stupidity!!
so yes, peer pressure exists. and i told the guy to shut up then get a job before asking me to leave mine.

That would be highly unprofessional to resign just because of that. Talk about killing your career. I mean if you worked in that newspaper in denmark, and you spoke out against what they were doing, and they ignored you THEN you quit, while burning down the building behind you. Indeed MJ, peer pressure is not an excuse for bad behaviour, but an explanation for its eventual occurence. One would hope people had more confidence and self esteem to resist it, but alas the world is not built so. :)

as for the cartoons, i am muslim and i was hurt to see them and of course i disagree with them, but i think we need to be calm and calulated in our response. it's like someone violating the koran, you cannot stop it, but you can condone it.
also sorry to mention canines again, but if a dog barks and u ignore it or u stare at it, it will probably continue to bark.. same thing with cartooners... i think ignoration is the best thing.
i doubt this is the first or last cartoon.. but hey.. if we are confident with our religion and identity why should we give two yawns to some danish newspaper?

About the cartoons, i agree you have to be calm about the situation,and when a dog does bark, you ignore it.
