Out of all the different accents I have to listen to and understand on a daily basis, or something close, I find the Egyptian accent the most difficult to understand.
I hate ordering from Pizza Hut because they're all Egyptians and I stand there for I don't know how long trying to explain what I want because I don't understand their Arabic or their English and they don't get what I'm saying, very confusing. Also, they always act as if the problem is in me…
This semester, I only have one Egyptian teacher and I gave up talking to him a long time ago, because it can be really embarrassing for me when he talks to me in Arabic or English and I don't get what he's saying, and I'm always expected to repeat what I said few times for him to get it.
Ok, these are few examples that I remember from class:
Teacher: 'something something will cause the something to be fucktuated'
Me thinking to myself: I'm pretty sure it's not that! Guess he meant fluctuated.'
Brime, I'm guessing it's prime but I have a very strong it's something else…
Parzentage, okay this one is eazy!
Infest, I believe infesting has nothing to do with finance so it is for sure invest.
I'm not criticizing anyone or anything because I know myself that I get all 'blah blah blah' and no one understands what I'm saying when I'm tired – both in English and Arabic.

One definately gets lost in translation with the masriyeen.
When I went to Cairo, to the market, they kept saying "bossi" "bossi". Me having just been in the levant area and being more or less crap at arabic in general, I thought he meant "kiss me kiss me". Boy did I give him a lecture...
Alas, it was the equivalent of shofi shofi. Talk about embarrasment.
To my egyptian teacher I answered a question saying "mashil haal", which in syria is used for everything basically saying "it's ok, I'm ok" etc etc.
He thought I said "mashi haalak" which basically means "bugger off".
No more speaking in egypt for me.

I don't watch TV... at all. but a very long time ago, when I used to watch TV, I liked the Syrian ones the most. I think.
and I still think Asian English is easier than Egyptian English. :P

oh god i dont even want to get started on that subject.
oh dear.. egypto-language is the worst to understand.. i cannot count how many funny, rude, amusing, embarrasing situations i have heard about involving something to do with that...
also the sad thing is it's quite a popular dialect (by numbers) and sadly in some parts of europe it's being taught to non-arabs! my flatmate went to arabic lessons by an egyptian and he taught him that a camel is Gamal, and a table is Tarabeeza.. Excuse me but Gamal was the president and Tarabeeza loosely means "music if" or "see Biz" in emirati hehe
MJ one thing about your new layout.. it's a bit annoying to have to click twice to get to a "leave your comment" window... the old one u just have to click once.. anyway it's just an observation :)
Clicking twice to leave a comment was actually starting to get on my nerves. I will play around with it and see what I can do, sorry it might not be soon though.

this had me grinning for hours. and asian english and arabic is easier than egyptian... but have you tried understanding a morrocan or algerian speak?????
